Goverdhan, a town 21 km away from Mathura, is the most well known and significant spot in Braj and the immense mountain arranged here is consistently venerated with extraordinary worship and confidence. As per folklore, Yogiraj Shri Krishna had lifted this mountain on his little finger to save individuals of Braj from the rage of Indra. Lovers exhibit their confidence in this blessed mountain by calling it ‘Giriraj Ji’ and circumambulating the mountain. The most common way of circumambulating (Parikrama) this mountain by strolling, lying on the ground or pouring a slight stream of milk is many years old.

For a really long time, lovers coming to Govardhan from India and abroad, while circumambulating the Giriraj mountain, go through numerous fanciful spots, conspicuous among them are ‘Danghati Sanctuary’, ‘Radhakund’, ‘Kusum Sarovar’, ‘Mansi Ganga’ and so on.

There is a practice of beginning the circumambulation of Giriraj Mountain from ‘Danghati Sanctuary’. A fanciful story behind this sanctuary is being named Daanghati. Radha and her companions were bringing milk, curd and margarine from all over for a Yagya when Shri Krishna alongside his companions began requesting gifts (cost charge) from Radha and her companions by hitting them with sticks. After this episode, this spot came to be known as ‘Danghati’.

नैक ठाड़ी रह री ग्वालन दैजा मेरौ दान |

लाला कैसो दान मांगै चतुर सुजान ।।

‘Mansi Ganga’ is arranged at the lower regions of Girraj, where explorers are honored by endlessly washing. It is accepted that Shri Krishna made Mansi Ganga from his own psyche. It was named Mansi Ganga in light of the fact that it began from the psyche of Shri Krishna.

‘Poonchari Ka Lotha’ presently goes under the boundaries of Rajasthan. In Braj, a grappler is called ‘Lautha’. There is a god of Ruler Hanuman here, solely after circumambulating it the circumambulation of Govardhan is viewed as complete.

‘Jatipura’ is the primary focus of Vallabha organization situated in Govardhan. At this spot is the ‘Old Sanctuary of Shrinathji’, which is currently in a haggard state. ‘Kusum Sarovar’ is a spot worth seeing from a building and archeological perspective, which falls nearly at the last stop of Girraj ji’s Saptakoshi Parikrama. It is accepted that Radha used to arrive at this put to meet Shri Krishna on the guise of picking blossoms, thus this spot was named Kusum Sarovar.

At first, it was a crude lake, which was caused concrete by Ruler To go Singh of Orchha in 1675. Raja Surajmal of Bharatpur state gave it an imaginative search in 1723 and created it as a nursery for Sovereign Kishori. In 1764, his child Jawahar Singh fostered this nursery. On a 460 feet in length stage, a commemoration of Lord Surajmal was implicit an area of 57 feet square, and close to it was fabricated the umbrellas of Sovereign Kishori and Hansiya, before which a colossal lake is constructed, which adds to its magnificence.
